What is SASSA and the SRD R370 Grant?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for paying social grants to eligible citizens. One of the most notable is the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant which was introduced during the COVID period and continues to aid unemployed individuals and those in deep financial distress at a value of R370 per month as of 2025.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following:

    • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee with a valid ID
    • Reside within South Africa
    • Be over the age of 18
    • Not be receiving any other form of income or social grant (such as UIF, NSFAS)
    • Not be employed or receiving financial support from another source

    How to Perform

For you to track the advancement of your SRD R370 grant, you can perform a SASSA status check online by following the steps below:

    1. Visit the official SASSA SRD website:
      Navigate to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
    2. Enter your South African ID number
This must be the same ID used during your application.
    3. Provide the cellphone number
Make sure it’s the number linked to your original grant registration.
    4. Submit and check your application status
You can check if your application is either approved, pending, declined, or if some further verification is needed.

If you’re unable to access the web portal, there are alternative methods available for checking your SASSA grant status.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to view your SRD status and payment schedule

    SASSA Call Centre

You can speak with a representative by calling:

Provide your ID and cellphone number for personalized assistance.

Understanding Your SASSA Application Status Results

Your application can return several different status messages. Here’s what they mean:

    • Pending: SASSA is still verifying your details. This status often appears for new applications or during monthly revalidation.
    • Approved: Your application has been accepted, and payment will be made soon.
    • Declined: Your application didn’t meet the eligibility requirements. You can appeal.
    • Bank Details Pending: Your application is approved, but SASSA requires your banking information for payment.

How to Update Your Banking Details on SASSA SRD

If your status shows “Bank Details Pending”, you need to provide or correct your banking information. Here’s how:

    1. Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za
    2. Scroll to the “How to change my banking details” section
    3. Enter your ID number
    4. Click the link sent to your phone via SMS
    5. Select your preferred payment method (bank or retail)
    6. Enter accurate banking details (must be registered in your name)

Payments will not be processed until valid banking information is submitted and verified.

Appeal a Declined SRD Grant Application

If your application was declined and you believe the decision was incorrect, you have the right to appeal:

    1. Go to https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals
    2. Enter your ID and mobile number
    3. Receive and enter the OTP sent to your phone
    4. Select the month you wish to appeal
    5. Choose the reason and submit your appeal

Appeals are processed monthly and must be submitted within 90 days of the decline notification.

SASSA Payment Dates for April 2025

Knowing when you’ll receive your money is critical. The SRD R370 grant is disbursed monthly, and for April 2025, the expected payment dates are:

    • Friday, 25 April 2025
    • Saturday, 26 April 2025
    • Sunday, 27 April 2025
    • Monday, 28 April 2025
    • Tuesday, 29 April 2025
    • Wednesday, 30 April 2025

Once payment is made, it may take 2–3 working days to reflect in your bank account, depending on your financial institution.

Common Reasons for SRD Grant Delays or Rejections

Here are some of the most frequent issues applicants face:

    • Incorrect ID or phone number during application
    • Bank account not in applicant’s name
    • Receiving other income (such as UIF or NSFAS)
    • Duplicate applications
    • Outdated or mismatched personal details

Ensure that all submitted information is accurate and matches Home Affairs records.

Tips to Ensure Approval and Timely Payments

To avoid rejection or delays in your SRD grant, follow these guidelines:

    • Use a mobile number registered in your name
    • Ensure your bank account is active and matches your ID
    • Do not apply multiple times or from different numbers
    • Regularly check your status to track progress or updates
    • Appeal immediately if your application is declined

What to Do If Your Number or Details Change

If you’ve changed your mobile number or bank account, visit the SASSA website to update it as soon as possible. You cannot receive OTPs or banking verification requests if your phone number is outdated.

    For number changes:

    • Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za
    • Scroll down to “Update your contact details”
    • Provide your ID and follow the steps to register the new number

    Conclusion

Staying informed about your SASSA SRD status check is essential for receiving timely grant payments. With multiple ways to monitor your application—online, via WhatsApp, or through USSD codes—you have full control over your application journey. Keep your details accurate, respond quickly to updates, and make appeals when necessary to ensure consistent access to your R370 grant.
